  • Facility Features - Individually controlled air-conditioning and heating, wall-to-wall carpeting, sound resistant walls, cable television outlets, refrigerators and ranges are standard in each apartment. Two elevators serve all floors. Coin-operated laundry facilities are available for your convenience.

  • Standard Features Bathrooms are equipped with showers, shower seats, grab bars and emergency pull-cord communication systems. Lever-type door handles and higher than normal electric wall outlets are standard. Apartments are equipped with smoke alarms and sprinklers. Unfurnished apartments include all utilities except telephone and cable television.

  • Security FeaturesSecurity contributes greatly to our residents’ peace of mind – front and back entrances are monitored 24 hrs/day. No tradesmen are admitted beyond the ground floor except by prior arrangement. Everyone entering must sign in and out. A professional security guard is on site at night.

  • TransportationThe Canterbury House bus is available for grocery/shopping trips, cultural events, restaurants and day trips.

  • In-House AmenitiesA beauty salon is located on site. Check cashing and office services are available at no charge and US mail service is provided. A beautiful in-house gift shop is available for your shopping convenience. A well-equipped exercise room is also accessible to all.

  • Special InterestsA full activity program offers the following: exercise, educational programs, musical entertainment, social gatherings, movies, parties and bingo. Educational opportunities through out the year include cooking classes, health care provider presentations, MUSE and College of Charleston nursing and resident educational programs and continuing ed opportunities for seniors. Interdenominational worship services are held throughout the week. Residents may also attend Bible Study each week. There is a lovely, well-stocked library and beautiful lobby where residents can gather to socialize and entertain visitors. A computer lab with Internet access is provided at no cost. Additional activities include a garden club, herb garden, writing group, karaoke, and trips to see the Charleston Riverdogs play baseball at Joseph P. Riley Stadium. The local Bookmobile comes to Canterbury House twice a month.

  • Additional ServicesA Registered Nurse/Wellness Coordinator is on site Monday through Friday. Physical/Occupational Therapy services are available with a physician’s order and free prescription delivery service is provided by a local pharmacy. Various wellness/educational programs are regularly scheduled. A licensed social worker is available to assist residents with specific social service needs. Additionally, medical specialists are scheduled as needed. A grief support group is also provided. 

  • LocationIdeally located in downtown historic Charleston, The Canterbury House is within walking distance of houses of worship, grocery stores, shopping, post office, county library, auditoriums, restaurants, recreational facilities and outstanding medical facilities.
